Charter listing my unlisted phone number and address

Charter Communications complaint by Fishon
I currently have the Charter cable, phone and internet bundle. Charter alerted me that they had inadvertently released my phone number and address to our local phone book. After contacting them they informed me that I would receive a $60 credit for the prior year and future year of paying for an unlisted number. The problem is I work in collections and certainly there are people that would love to have my address. Now they have it in black and white (Thanks Charter!). Anyway, after calling and telling them this was unacceptable and I wanted more (an alarm system on my home), I was informed all they could do was give me $60 credit. After 4 more calls and no promised return calls they are now wiliing to give me two months free cable, phone, and internet (I asked for a year). I told them once there is an incident I'm going to sue them for $1,000,000.00 and I will be seeking legal counsel. It is amazing that they can jeopardize my family's lives and offer a joke of a remedy (approx $300). I'm going to speak to an attorney on Monday and will be calling the BBB and FCC to report them.

Charter informed me they would give me two months of service and the BBB is notifying Charter that in order to resolve my complaint I want a year of all the services I currently receive from Charter (phone, internet, and cable (including some pay channels). The BBB stated they receive a lot of complaints on Charter and informed me that the Missouri Attorney General's Office is also a valuable resource. I'm currently waiting on a response as I don't feel that two months of services is really adequate compensation.

I've been in contact with the Better Business Bureau and they are in the process of contacting Charter with my request for one full year of all the services I currently receive (cable, phone, and internet). I'm waiting for a response. They stated they receive several complaints on Charter and mentioned that another resource would be the Missouri Attorney Generals office.

Any word from that attorney? I am a teacher and my wife works in the juvenile justice system.

You've got to be kidding me! I have the EXACT same problem. My wife is a physician and I work with youth who are at risk of, and have histories of violence. I have been "working" on this with Charter since last October and have gotten NO WHERE! All of the promised return calls have NEVER been done. I was told I could have a $38 credit and it would be removed from my bill (of which I am still being charged). I asked her if that's what she deems my beautiful 5 year old daughter was worth -- she didn't have a response. I was also told within "72 hours" the information would be removed from web-based searches, ie, whitepages.com, again, still there after 5 months.

Meanwhile, a kid in my program states he knows where I live, and goes on to describe my neighborhood and home. To which another kid says "how do you know that?" His reply "well it's in the phone book". Now I have this kid stating to me, at the most opportune times, "remember, I know where you live". My wife is now afraid to be home alone. Since that time, I have witnessed 4 of my clients drive by my home.

Getting no where with there wonderful (sarcastically stated) telephone customer service, I went to there new "neighborhood"customer service center. They were most concerned about removing the $2.50 from my monthly bill (again, still being billed for it) and assured me they were "personally working on it" and would be in contact with me. That was ONE AND A HALF MONTHS AGO with no follow up!

Get this, I ask for information on how to contact the Vice President of Customer Services and am told "I don't know who that is or how to contact them." I ask for their supervisor's name and number again, they can't give me that information.

I have also informed them that if anything happens to my home or family, I will absolutely sue them. I would be interested in what your legal counsel says. We may want to look at a class-action lawsuit because there have to be more of us.

That is the short version of my nearly year-long issues with Charter's Customer Service. I am VERY ANGRY, and would remove all of their servcies from my home, unfortunately other options in my area are scarce. I have steered countless friends and families from NOT going with Charter.
