Charter Communications - False charges on my credit report
I recently moved to another state and closed my Charter account. I called to make sure I had paid the final bill I had received at my new address as with the stress of moving I was afraid I had forgotten and couldn't find it.
The woman says yes you have a balance due of $175. I didn't understand this as the last bill was for around $19 I asked her how this was possible and she informed me it was for the account I had closed in 2011. When I closed that account I remember having to drive 40 minutes to their office in Janesville WI as it was the closest one to turn in my equipment and paid my final bill. I never heard anything more after that and had even opened up the second account at the same address a couple years later.
Now they are claiming I owe them money that I don't! Her computer shows the date that I turned in my equipment but shows no payment for that date. I paid in cash and now years later I no longer have my receipt. So basically it looks like whoever was working the counter at their Janesville WI office in 2011 pocketed my money!
I find it very strange that I was able to start service with them again without a problem and no mention of the money they now claim I owe.
I just checked my credit report and it's on there. So now I have to decide if I should pay it again or wait the two years for it to drop off my report out of principle.
Reason of review: Problems with payment.
Monetary Loss: $175.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
Charter Communications Cons: Lost record of my final payment.

I got a bill from them for over 600 dollars and it was for next door I called them and said I've never had there cable I have never lived next door they said I'd have to pay it these *** are crazy I'd never have there cable it's not worth a penny a month I told them I'm going to get a lawyer she hung up on me that shows you what a *** company this is
If it's $175 even, that sounds like charge for a converter box or DVR. If you have receipt for the equipment you turned in, you could thereby prove you never owed this.
